Being the best boss doesn’t always mean being organised, responsible, respectful, and intelligent. Sure – you need these things, but that shouldn’t define you as a boss; otherwise you’ll be great at your job, but you’ll come off as a robot. It’s about having the right balance between being professional, and also human.
If your employees don’t feel as though they’re able to come and talk to you about any issues or concerns they have, then you aren’t doing your job properly.
It’s the little things that count, like making an effort to make the workplace as pleasant and welcoming as possible. There are many ways you can do this – here are just a few examples.
As long as everyone is still able to complete the tasks at hand, there is no reason why you can’t have some music playing in the background. This will not only put everyone in a generally good mood, but it can actually improve productivity and inspire at the same time. Music is a powerful thing that unlocks many different parts of our mind, and makes us feel all different kinds of emotions, that’s why it’s important to play the appropriate music for your workspace. For example, Metallica may not be the best if you’re trying to write an important email to your business partners…
Let’s be honest – who doesn’t love cakes? Cream cakes, chocolate cakes, cheesecakes… The list goes on. Why not commit to a day where you treat all your employees with these naughty snacks? A lot of people would say on a Friday because it’s the last day before the weekend (depending on what industry you’re in). But Monday may be better, because that’s when most people are miserable as it’s the first day back at work. So turn the frowns upside down with your yummy goodies instead. Your employees will love you for it – we would.
We’re not talking about a kettle and a pot of coffee granules – oh no. We mean the real deal. A fancy coffee machine that you see in luxury restaurants and hotels. The kind that you take a sip of and your taste buds are already soaring through the sky in ultimate pleasure. There are many great brands out there on the market so it’s just about finding what will best suit your office. Cecilware have some wonderful products to choose from so take a look and see if there’s anything you like.
Of course, your employees are supposed to be working so you can’t have anything too distracting, but let’s use the trash can as an example. Why not buy an office basketball hoop and place it above your communal bin. Then rather than having to get up as you usually would to dispose of any rubbish – make a game of it instead and see how good an aim you all have. This will just keep the general vibe a more relaxed and fun one, rather than dull, quiet, and boring.
